What would Socrates Say?

After reading "What would Socrates Say?" by Peter W. Cookson, Jr., I believe that Socrates would approve of webquests. Socrates believed that you learned through continual questioning and unconventional inquiry. Webquests makes you use your critical thinking skills by setting up tasks for groups of students to accomplish and processes they have to take to get there. It's more than surfing the internet, it's applying what you've learned. Socrates used the knowledge he had to question the status quo. Webquests will let students look at things in different perspectives. Socrates didn't teach in a classroom. He taught wherever their was a learning experience. He felt that the best teaching tool was "purposeful conversation". Webquests allow for all kinds of teaching experiences if they're well constructed.

After reading through Taxonomy, I have concluded that my webquest is set up under Designs Tasks.

  1. You demonstrate a strong understanding of how WebQuests can be used as a teaching tool in a way that Socrates would approve of!
